Aggressive Skate Tricks- HOW TO: Backside Unity

Posted by Deshisk8 on the Roller Warehouse Aggressive Skate Forum

This trick is more mental than anything. I’m writing this tutorial from the perspective of a left foot natural style, but it will apply to all pretty much. 1) Find yourslf a low ledge or rail. About knee high is what I learned on. 2) Approach the obstacle with moderate speed. If it’s waxed up well, you won’t need much speed. Keep about a foot away from you and the obstacle. 3) As you approach, jump up with both feet and turn your lower body 90 degrees to the right ie. away from the obstacle. Keep our upper body straight. Put your right foot in front of your left foot. Your feet should be turned 90 degrees from your upper body, and you’ll land right in between your middle wheels or the center of your frames. 4) Just ride out this grind, it is very well balanced. 5) For the dismount, if you kept your upper body straight, it is very easy to unwind 270 out of this grind. Just push off a little with both feet and unwind your legs, twisting your upper body 90 degrees to fakie. If not, then just turn out of the grind. 6) This is a great gateway trick for learning switch top pornstars, front unitys, and top acids.

You’re totally wrong, unless you’re doing the grind on something circular or really really short. Keeping your upper body doesn’t help at all. What you might want to try is turning your upper body, especially your shoulders as well, while looking over your left shoulder. Plan on going fakie after the grind is done and you’ll slide easier, especially if you don’t happen to have any wax on you and you just gotta go at it hardcore. It’s how I learned to do full torques, it helps a lot.

i learned it by doing an acid grind and then just turning my back foot so my feet are crossed… the key to this trick is not freaking out when your legs are crossed and locking it on the outside of each boot… this keeps yer weight on the rail so you won’t fall thats it

think of a fronside unity the same way except do a top acid and turn your back foot!!!!!
