Ross Recaps Barn Burner

It all started at 3:30 in the morning on friday with erick garcia mysteriously throwing up and shortly thereafter we boarded a plane to seattle where he mysteriously vommited for the 2nd time.

We got our rental car and we were off to downtown seattle to chill at pike street market (the place where they throw the fish) and do a little street skating. After some much needed breakfast and a truespin soul by andy johnson on a brick outledge, the typical seattle rain set in and we cut out to renton (home of the skatebarn) to get our hotel and skate the park for a while. That night we ran up a bill of $160 dollers for dinner and partied till the sun came up in the hotel.

Saturday we headed over to skatebarn around 2 pm for the second installment of “THE GAME” competition. This time it was skatebarns team vs. the best pros from all over. Tricks were being matched time after time and it was almost looking up for the skatebarn guys untill woodwards richie valesquez did a huge fakie backflip over the launch box. Randy juarez having never tried this trick before gave it a couple good attempts but couldnt pull it. I cant remeber exactly what the final score was but it ended with a close win by the Pro’s. In the next couple hours it was just a big session where amazing tricks were going down left and right.

Right before the actual contest eulogy premired their newest flick titled “the power to believe”. I saw some amazing profiles on Robert Lievanos and Eric Schrign proving once again that age is nothing but a number.

I cant recall too many specific tricks in the competition but one highlight was RW’s team rider Sean Keane killing everything
and making it to the finals. At the end it came down to Haffey and Aragon battleing it out on this huge 6ft. high launch box. To see what they did you will have to check out the edits but i can say that Haffey ended up taking it and kept his title for the 3rd year in a row as The Barn Burner Champion.

The after party was held at the skatepark where everyone was entertained by the music, skating, ping pong matches and a huge vegetable platter. Sunday we just kicked back and skated a little untill our flight out on monday where I had the pleasure of sitting next to one of the craziest ladies i have ever met who called herself “The Joan of Ark”. The comic relief made the 2 hour flight go by like a breeze and we were back in norcal. If you were there im sure you had as good of a time as I did if you weren’t there you can check out a couple photos on this page and also on www.emir3.com. I’d like to thank Randy Juarez and all of skatebarn for really doing a stand up job organizing the whole event and promoting our sport in a positive way.

peace- ross
