Norcal Street Series Follow Up
Norcal Street Series :: Joey- Back Royal
Posted by Captain Johnson
The day is Saturday April 22nd and it is cloudy out….
Woke up to a fresh pot of Ross Kuhn’s special blend coffee (SafeWay brand).. He makes a mean batch every morning and normally faces it to himself, but I woke up in time to get a cup.. We leave the house extra early cause we NEEDED to get to Dustin’s house no later then 9:15 to leave for the Bay…… We get to the Sacramento house and get prepared for a long drive to the Bay Area.. Dustin, Peanut, Marry, and myself leave in one car determined to get to Erick Garcia’s house in enough time to get some breakfast and get to the comp before it starts..
We arrive at Erick’s and are delayed due to some Bay Area lagging/much needed R&R that must take place every time you drive out from Sacramento. We then leave from Erick’s and pick up Nor Cal’s legend Kell McKenzie. We’re off to the comp finally!!! We arrive to a HUGE crowd of rollerbalders……. Right when we pull up there are people lacing crazy stunts and the comp hasn’t even started.. It’s was a great turn out and many people have come to see some amazing street skating go down..
The first spot was a nice down stair rail that was getting destroyed, and the crowd was loving it.. Everyone we lacing amazing tricks left and right. Two people really stuck out to me at the first spot. Joey Ihara A.K.A. “The Crow/Brandon Lee” and Shawn Oberg. Shawn was killin the down rail more than anyone and Joey was lacing an amazing Back Royal to transfer to the Down Rail.. Everything was going great until some random older gentleman decided that what we were doing was wrong and that we shouldn’t be there… I must say he was one brave dude for trying (key word) to stand up to about 200 angry/pissed off rollerbladers/gangsta bay area heads that just wanted to finish/see the last two minutes of the spot…… Long story short Matt and Jeff took his phone and phone book, and a water bottle was thrown by Terrance and we were off to the next spot due to police getting called.
Dustin, Marry, Peanut, and myself find ourselves in the car yet again.. Leaving the first spot we run into another little problem. There are about 100 cars trying to follow one another and a police man that is waiting for us all to pull out. As we all caravan down the road to the 2nd spot(a crazy kink rail that I tried to true mizue way to many times) the police man followed us… James St. Ours does an amazing Fishy on this to many kink kinked rail, and Ross Kuhn laided down the law with some Oregon hot fire steez on them. We get kicked out and forced to go to another spot..
Not being able to find this 3rd spot that Tommy boy provide us with a map to. We then drive around for about and hour trying to get ahold of someone to give us better directions. Thankfully another Nor Cal Legend and JSF President Scott Moore tells us we are on the other side of San Francisco……..We are a little upset @ this point. We ended up getting to the final spot in enough time to hand out some free gifts to the winners and almost everyone that showed up to the comp.
We were a little disappointed that we didn’t get to see two of SACRAMENTO’s finest Casey Bagozzi and Sapata get 2nd and 3rd place, but were happy that SACRAMENTO held it down.. Overall it was a great comp except for not being able to find the spots and getting kicked out. We all had a great time and got some hot deals later in Berkeley at Fat Slice and the head shop across the way.. Highlight of my trip would have to be hitting up Sean Keane’s secret fitted hat store(best deal and sickest hats in Nor Cal) and picking up a fresh new A’s hat.. Dustin Dixon is also a proud owner of a new SF cap..
Here are some photo’s of the comp, our drive, and some HYPHY black dude names Derek Kennedy.. Enjoy.
Johnson out…
